Often we hear people ask, why do I need a lactation consultant, shouldn’t it just happen naturally? The answer we give is that historically we have always had lactation consultants. They were the mother’s sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, etc. Mothers have always used others to help with the nursing process. 

Another myth is that breastfeeding is going to be painful at first. This should not be the case. Feeling a strong pull is ok, but pain is not.
